A massive Neolithic cairn on Gop Hill in Flintshire, Wales, and the second-largest ancient human-made mound in Britain after Silbury Hill. The oval monument stands 14 m high with a maximum diameter of 101 m, constructed of limestone blocks with drystone walling. Boyd Dawkins excavated in 1886-87 using tunnels and a shaft but found no burial chamber, leaving its function uncertain. The Gop Cave beneath yielded fourteen human skeletons, a stone axe, and Peterborough pottery indicating Neolithic activity. Whether it served as a passage grave, ceremonial platform, or hillfort remains debated.
