Abdera was an ancient Carthaginian and Roman port on a hill above modern Adra on Spain's southeastern Mediterranean coast [1]. Founded by Phoenicians in the 8th century BC, the settlement sits at 49.38 meters above sea level and is considered a Cultural Interest site [2]. Excavations at Cerro Montecristo uncovered 4th-century BC house structures and Roman fish-salting tanks, revealing layers of Phoenician, Carthaginian, and Roman occupation [3][4].
