Deir el-Bahari

Deir el-Bahari is a complex of mortuary temples and tombs on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Luxor, forming part of the Theban Necropolis [1]. The first monument here was the mortuary temple of Mentuhotep II of the Eleventh Dynasty, constructed in the 21st century BC during the Middle Kingdom period [2]. During the Eighteenth Dynasty, both Amenhotep I and Hatshepsut significantly expanded the site, with Hatshepsut's tiered temple being particularly renowned.
