El Tigre (Campeche)

El Tigre/Itzamkanac is a Chontal Maya archaeological site in the Candelaria river basin of Campeche, Mexico[1]. Itzamkanac means 'Place of the Iguana/Crocodile House' in the Chontal Maya language[1]. It served as the regional capital of the Acalanes province[1]. The site features two main plazas with four large structures, a ball court, and additional buildings totaling thirteen structures[1].
