Museo Regional de Campeche

The Museo Regional de Campeche, housed in the 18th-century Fuerte de San Miguel fortress, opened in 1986 as the Museo Arqueológico de Campeche. This two-story building displays a pre-Hispanic collection from the Gulf and Central Highlands regions, featuring ceramic vessels, obsidian and stone tools, and exhibits on Maya religion and funeral customs. The museum's prized possession is the famous jade mask discovered inside a tomb, representing one of the most significant Maya artifacts on display[1].
