Roman Villa of Camino de Albalate

A Roman villa site near Calanda in Teruel province, Aragon, discovered in January 1964 by Antonio Bielsa Alegre in the Albalate orchard area. Now dismantled, it is one of the most significant Roman sites in Teruel province. The villa's principal treasure is a polychrome opus tessellatum mosaic featuring varied themes, which stands as the primary example of Roman culture in the province. The site served as key evidence of Roman Calanda (established by Tito Didio after the fall of the Celtiberian settlement of Kolenda). The rescued mosaic is now on display at the Archaeological Museum in Teruel.
