Colonial Forum of Tarraco

The Colonial Forum of Tarraco was the political, economic, and religious center of the Roman colony of Tarraco (modern Tarragona, Spain), active from the late Republic through the mid-4th century AD. The complex included a basilica built during Augustus's reign that served as the judicial and commercial hub, a Capitolium temple with three chambers dedicated to Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva showing three construction phases from the 2nd century BC through Hadrian's reign, and an Aedes Augusti housing imperial cult sculptures. The forum also contained a treasury (aerarium) with underground storage chambers for public funds and a porticoed plaza with sculptures of the goddess Victoria. It forms part of the Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its exceptional Roman urban planning.
