Torre dels Escipions

Torre dels Escipions is a Roman funerary tower built in the early 1st century AD along the Via Augusta, 6 km from ancient Tarraco (modern Tarragona), capital of Hispania Citerior. The three-storey monument features two reliefs of the Phrygian god Attis, protector of the dead, whose distinctive cap led to centuries of misidentification as the Scipio brothers' tomb. It is part of the Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tower likely served as a family mausoleum for a married couple or two brothers, housing cremated remains.
