Archaeological Ensemble of Tárraco

The Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco in Tarragona, Spain, was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Tarraco was the oldest Roman settlement on the Iberian Peninsula, founded in the 3rd century BC, and served as capital of Hispania Citerior and centre of the Imperial cult for all Iberian provinces. The ensemble comprises 14 sites across four municipalities, including the city walls, amphitheatre, circus, Roman theatre, forum, Les Ferreres Aqueduct, and the Arc de Bera. These remains served as a model for provincial capitals throughout the Roman world.
