SpainThe Fontes Tamarici are three ancient springs mentioned by Roman author Pliny the Elder during the Roman conquest of Cantabria (1st c. BC). Located in what is now Palencia, Spain, these springs have been identified since the 18th century with the source of La Reana in Velilla del Río Carrión. Pliny recorded that the springs were frequently dry while nearby springs continued to flow, a condition he noted was considered a bad omen. [1]
