Roman Ruins of Pisões

The Roman Ruins of Pisoes are a villa rustica classified as a Property of Public Interest, located about 10 km southwest of Beja in the Alentejo region. Accidentally rediscovered in 1967 during agricultural work, the villa was occupied from the 1st to 4th centuries AD and features a peristyle with four marble columns leading to over 40 rooms decorated with mosaics, stuccoes, and marble plaques. The complex includes well-preserved thermal baths with a hypocaustum heating system, a Roman dam measuring 58 by 4.3 metres, a mill, and a mausoleum.
