Menhirs of Lavajo

A group of menhirs in the parish of Alcoutim e Pereiro, Algarve, Portugal, likely erected during the second half of the 4th millennium BC [1] [2]. The largest stands over 3 metres tall and is carved from greywacke, a dark grey stone with a brown patinated surface, making it the largest example of greywacke menhirs known in Portugal [1] [2] [3]. The menhirs have an ellipsoidal cross-section and are engraved with circles and dimples [2] [4].
