Dolmen-Chapel of São Brissos

The Dolmen-Chapel of Sao Brissos is a Neolithic dolmen converted into a Christian chapel, located in the parish of Santiago do Escoural, Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal. The dolmen dates to the 4th-3rd millennium BC and was transformed into a whitewashed chapel approximately 350 years ago in the 17th century. This rare adaptation of a prehistoric burial monument into a place of Catholic worship makes it architecturally unique in Western Europe. Classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1957, the chapel remains in active use for pilgrimages.
