Roman Bridge over the Ribeira de Odivelas

A Roman bridge near Vila Ruiva in the municipality of Cuba, Beja District, Portugal. The original granite structure dates to between the 1st century BC and 1st century AD, with subsequent reconstructions by Visigoths (5th century) and Arabs (11th century). The bridge extends 120 metres with twenty arches, fifteen of which remain partially buried by sediment. It was part of the Roman road connecting Ossonoba (Faro) to Pax Iulia (Beja) and onward to Merida. Still in active use today after nearly 2,000 years, it was classified as a National Monument in 1967.
