The largest standing dolmen in Europe, located near Evora in Portugal and dated to approximately 4000-3000 BC. The megalithic tomb features seven massive pillars rising over 7 metres above ground, forming a polygonal chamber connected to a 12-metre-long corridor. Originally covered with earth to resemble a hill, the monument predates the Egyptian pyramids. Archaeological excavations in 1965 by Henrique Leonor Pina uncovered slate tablets, necklaces, copper objects, and ceramics, now housed in the Evora Museum. Declared a Portuguese national monument in 1971 and protected by a metallic enclosure since 1983.
