Menir da Cabeça do Rochedo

A Neolithic limestone menhir located on a hill near Portelas, approximately 5 km north of Lagos in the Algarve, Portugal. The cylindrical, obelisk-shaped stone features faint serpentiform (wavy, spiral-like) carvings along its length. It was originally part of a group of eight similar monuments, of which it is the sole survivor in its original location; the others were relocated by Lagos municipality for preservation. Unlike other Algarve menhirs, it did not serve funerary purposes, and its original function remains debated.
