Kot Diji

Kot Diji is an archaeological site representing an early phase of the Indus Valley Civilization, with occupation dating to approximately 3300 BCE [1]. Located about 45 km south of Khairpur in Sindh, Pakistan, the site sits on the east bank of the Indus River, directly opposite Mohenjo-daro [1]. The remains are divided into two areas: a citadel on elevated ground and a surrounding outer area [2]. The Pakistan Department of Archaeology conducted excavations in 1955 and 1957, with F.A. Khan's 1954-55 excavation revealing the formative Kot Dijian cultural assemblage that predates the mature Indus Civilization [1][3].
