Thermes Romains en Ruine-Roman Baths

The Roman Baths of Beirut date to the Roman imperial period when Berytus had four major bath complexes. Located in downtown Beirut between Banks Street and Capuchin Street, the baths were discovered in 1968 and feature a hypocaust underfloor heating system with terracotta disk pillars, along with a frigidarium, tepidarium, and caldarium. The complex showcases intricate mosaic floors with mythological scenes. All of Berytus' baths were destroyed by the catastrophic earthquake of 551 AD. One of the preserved bath ruins is occasionally used as an artistic performance and concert space.
