Thermes Romains en Ruine-Roman Baths

The Roman Baths of Beirut date to the Roman imperial period when Berytus had four major bath complexes [1] [2]. Located in downtown Beirut between Banks Street and Capuchin Street, the baths were discovered in 1968 and feature a hypocaust underfloor heating system with terracotta disk pillars [1]. All of Berytus' baths were destroyed by the catastrophic earthquake of 551 AD [1] [2]. One of the preserved bath ruins is occasionally used as an artistic performance and concert space [1].
