Square Peristyle

The Square Peristyle was a massive peristyle structure on the east side of the Ancient Agora of Athens, constructed around 300 BC [1]. Among the largest peristyles built in Classical Greece, it was abandoned around 285-275 BC, leaving the structure unfinished [1]. It likely served as Athens' law courts during the early Hellenistic period [1]. In the early 2nd century BC, the building was demolished and its materials were reused in South Stoa II, while the Stoa of Attalos was subsequently built over its foundations [1].
