Kalapodi

Sanctuary in Phocis, Central Greece, identified as the Oracle of Apollo at Abae, which rivaled Delphi in fame. Excavations by the German Archaeological Institute revealed a sequence of ten temples demonstrating unbroken cult continuity from ca. 1400 BC through the 2nd century AD. This makes it the first site to archaeologically confirm continuity between Mycenaean and Classical Greek religion. The two parallel temple complexes, enclosure wall, and auxiliary buildings attest to its importance as a major interregional sanctuary.
