Mitrou

Mitrou is a 3.6-hectare tidal islet in the Bay of Atalanti, East Lokris, Central Greece, continuously occupied from the Early Helladic II period (ca. 2650 BC) through the Protogeometric period (ca. 900 BC). As the largest Bronze Age settlement in East Lokris, it served as a regional trade hub with Aegean contacts. Excavations by the University of Tennessee and Greek Archaeological Service (2004-2008) exposed up to 25 occupational strata, recovering over 13,000 pottery sherds, obsidian tools, bronze remains, and elite chamber tomb goods including gold jewelry.
