Lower Larymna

Lower Larymna was a port town in ancient Boeotia, Greece, situated on the shore of the Bay of Larmes near the mouth of the river Cephissus. It grew in importance after joining the Boeotian League, becoming the most convenient maritime outlet for inland cities like Orchomenus, Copae, and Chaeroneia. The ruins at Kastri show walls with a circuit of less than a mile. When the Romans united Upper Larymna with Lower Larymna, the upper settlement was likely abandoned as inhabitants relocated to the port.
