City of Alesia

Alesia was a Celtic oppidum and capital of the Mandubii tribe in Gaul.[1] The settlement was conquered by Julius Caesar in 52 BC during the Gallic Wars, becoming the site of the decisive Battle of Alesia that ended organized Gallic resistance.[1] After the Roman conquest, it developed into a Gallo-Roman town.[1] Located on Mont-Auxois near modern Alise-Sainte-Reine in Burgundy, France, the site was historically disputed until excavations confirmed its identity.[1]
