Slate Hill Settlement

Slate Hill Settlement is an Iron Age defended settlement on a hilltop near Bolam, approximately 11 km west of Morpeth in Northumberland, England. The semi-circular enclosure measures 98m by 62m and is defended by four ramparts of stone and earth, about 5 metres wide and 1.4 metres high, though the eastern ramparts have been damaged by quarrying. First constructed in the 7th-5th centuries BC, the settlement would have contained stone or timber roundhouses for a single family group with space for livestock. A quern for grinding corn was recorded at the site. It is designated as a Scheduled Monument (entry 1011834).
