Rykeneld Street

Rykeneld Street (also Ryknield Street) was a Roman road in northern England's Midlands, connecting Deva (modern Chester) to Derventio (Derby) via Stoke-on-Trent [1][2]. It should not be confused with the nearby Icknield Street [3]. Victorian antiquarians also called it the "Via Devina" [2]. The route traversed territory associated with the Iron Age Cornovii tribe [4]. This 1st-to-5th-century AD highway facilitated military movement and trade across the Roman province of Britannia [1][2].
