Helsby Hill Fort

Helsby Hill Fort is an Iron Age hillfort overlooking the village of Helsby in Cheshire, northwest England[1]. The hill has steep cliffs on the northern and western sides, providing natural semicircular defence, while double rampart earthworks extend to the south and east[1]. Excavations revealed a wall of sand and rubble revetted with stone[1]. Rising 141m above sea level, it dominates the Cheshire Plain with views over the Mersey Estuary and into Wales[1]. The site is owned largely by the National Trust and protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument[1].
