Moorgate

Moorgate was the last gate added to London's defensive wall, originally a small postern that became a full gate in 1415 under Lord Mayor Thomas Falconer. Unlike the city's other six gates, it was medieval rather than Roman in origin, providing access to the marshy Moorfields north of the wall. Enlarged in 1472 and 1511, then rebuilt in 1673 to become the grandest of London's gates, it was demolished in 1761 with its stone reused to widen London Bridge.
