Flag Fen

Flag Fen is a Bronze Age site in England constructed around 3,500 years ago, consisting of more than 60,000 timbers arranged in five long rows to create a wooden causeway across the wet fenland east of Peterborough [1]. A small island was formed part-way across the structure, and associated items have led scholars to conclude the island was of religious significance [1]. Archaeological work began in 1982, and the site is located 800 metres east of Fengate [1]. Flag Fen is now part of the Greater Fens Museum Partnership, with a visitor centre on site and some areas reconstructed including an Iron Age roundhouse dwelling [1].
