Rutland Roman Villa

A Romano-British villa discovered in 2020 in Rutland, England, featuring the most significant Roman mosaic find in the UK in over a century. The mosaic, measuring 11m by 7m, depicts scenes from the Trojan War in an unusual comic-strip style across three panels -- the only such representation from Roman Britain. The complex includes a bath suite with underfloor heating, agricultural buildings, and corridor mosaics with geometric patterns. Research revealed the mosaic draws on a lost tragedy by Aeschylus rather than Homer's Iliad directly.
