Embury Beacon

Embury Beacon is an Iron Age promontory fort on the Hartland Peninsula in north Devon, perched on west-facing cliffs at approximately 150 metres above sea level. The fort has largely been lost to coastal erosion, though fragments of the eastern ramparts with an entrance gap of about 4 metres survive. Excavations by the Department of the Environment in 1972-73 uncovered postholes, pottery including Late Iron Age Glastonbury Ware, slingstones, spindle whorls, and whetstones suggesting domestic occupation. It is part of the National Trust's Bideford Bay and Hartland property.
