Lee Wood

Lee Wood is an Iron Age hillslope enclosure near Braunton and Barnstaple in Devon, situated on a promontory above Knowle Water at approximately 120 metres above sea level. The fort is about 70 paces in diameter on the western spur of a hill overlooking the valley. Discovered in the late 1950s by a local farmer, the woodland covering the earthwork was cleared in the 1960s-70s, partially uncovering a fireplace containing ashes and animal bone including pig from the Neolithic period. Extensive Mesolithic and Neolithic artifacts found nearby include flint scrapers, serrated blades, burins, knives, and arrowheads verified by the University of Exeter.
