Derbyshire Portway

The Derbyshire Portway is a prehistoric trackway running approximately 49 miles (79 km) across the Peak District, from Stapleford Hill near Nottingham to Mam Tor in north Derbyshire. Dating to the Bronze Age based on flint tools and pot-sherds found along its route, it was first identified by amateur historian R.W.P. Cockerton in the 1930s through a chain of 'port' place-names. The route passes numerous ancient sites including the Nine Stones Close stone circle, Robin Hood's Stride, and Bronze Age tumuli. It was featured on Channel 4's Britain's Ancient Tracks with Tony Robinson in 2017.
