Mersinaki

Mersinaki is an ancient open-air sanctuary located between Vouni and Soli on the north coast of Cyprus. Excavated in 1930 by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition under Einar Gjerstad, the site yielded a large quantity of limestone and terracotta sculptures, including bearded male figures, from pits within a sacred precinct. Inscriptions found at the site indicate it was dedicated to Apollo, possibly Apollo Lykios, with evidence of later worship of Athena. The sanctuary dates primarily from the 9th to 4th centuries BC.
