Mnemata Site

The Mnemata Site is an archaeological cemetery at the Mnemata locality of Larnaca, Cyprus, forming part of the western necropolis of the ancient city-kingdom of Kition. The area was used as a burial ground from the beginning of the Iron Age through Roman times. A tomb discovered in 1979 during construction of a refugee settlement led to excavation of 63 tombs at the site, also known as the Agios Georgios cemetery. The sprawling necropolis is one of the most studied in Cyprus, though a supermarket now stands over the excavation area.
