Pannonian Limes

The Pannonian Limes in Croatia is a segment of the Roman Danubian frontier stretching approximately 420 km from Austria to Serbia[1]. Built along the Danube River, this line of forts and watchtowers protected the Pannonian provinces from northern barbarian invasions from the reign of Augustus (31 BC–AD 14) until the early 5th century[1]. In certain areas, Roman defenses extended across the river into hostile Barbaricum territory[1].
