Loltún Cave is an archaeological cave site in the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico, located approximately 7 km south of Oxkutzcab[1]. The cave contains Maya rock art dating to the Late Preclassic period (c. 3000-1500 BC) or earlier[1]. Notable findings include negative hand paintings, representations of human faces, sculptural figures, animal motifs, and geometric designs carved into the cave walls[2]. The cave's name derives from Mayan words "lol" (flower) and "tun" (stone), meaning "Flower Stone"[1]. This site provides significant evidence of early Maya ceremonial practices and artistic expression in the region[2].
