Kiuic

Kiuic is a Maya archaeological site in the Puuc region of Yucatan, Mexico, with occupation spanning from c. 800 BC to its abandonment around 880 AD. The name derives from the Maya word K'iiwik, meaning plaza. The Yaxche Group forms the civic-ceremonial centre with three plazas and a 12-metre-high pyramid. Residents suddenly left around 880 AD, leaving household items intact, providing rare insights into daily Maya life comparable to Pompeii. The Bolonchen Regional Archaeological Project has conducted systematic investigations since 1999.
