Aké (Yucatan)

Aké was a major Maya city in Yucatán, Mexico, flourishing from approximately 500 to 1000 AD. The site, meaning 'place of vines' in Yucatec Maya, spanned roughly 4 square kilometres and featured well-preserved architectural ensembles including El Palacio and the Great Plaza surrounded by elite residential structures [1]. A notable 32-kilometre sacbé (white road) connected Aké to Izamal, facilitating trade and ceremonial links between the cities [1]. The site is located in the municipality of Tixkokob, approximately 40 kilometres east of Mérida [2].
