The Gate of Athena Archegetis is a monumental Roman-era gateway on the west side of the Roman Agora in Athens, Greece [1]. Constructed in 11 BC through donations by Julius Caesar and Augustus, it served as the western entrance to the agora [1]. The monument features a row of four Doric columns resting on a socle, all built from pristine Pentelic marble [1]. It is considered the second most prominent surviving structure at the site after the Tower of the Winds [1]. The gate was dedicated by the Demos (People) of Athens to their patron goddess Athena Archegetis, whose epithet means "leader" or "foundress" [1].
