Anakeion

A 5th-century BC sanctuary in Athens dedicated to the Dioskouroi (Castor and Pollux), located on the east slope of the Acropolis near the cave of Aglauros. It served as a key military assembly point, as described by Thucydides when soldiers gathered there during the oligarchic unrest of 411 BC. The annual Anakeia festival held here featured animal sacrifices for military protection. Its exact location remains debated, with limited archaeological remains identified.
