The Roman Ruins of Cerro da Vila are the remains of a 1st-century Roman maritime villa near Vilamoura in the Algarve, occupied successively by Romans, Visigoths, and Arabs. The complex includes two residences, public and private baths, a necropolis, dams, and fish-salting stations where garum -- a fermented fish sauce exported across the Roman Empire -- was produced. The site preserves elaborate mosaics, luxurious fountains, funerary monuments including columbaria, and a fluvial port that served as a trading post. A museum on-site displays artifacts spanning from the Bronze Age through the Islamic period.
