Kinal is a major pre-Columbian Maya archaeological site in the Petén Department of northern Guatemala. The site's major occupational phase dates to the Late Classic period (600-900 AD), with evidence of a substantial expansionary building program during the first half of the 8th century AD[1][2]. The architectural style corresponds to the Late Classic period. Kinal was discovered in the 1960s by archaeologist Ian Graham during a regional survey, though no excavations were conducted at that time[1][2].
