Isla Principal Topoxte

Topoxte is a Late Postclassic Maya ceremonial center (1250-1500 AD) on an island in southwestern Lake Yaxha, northeastern Peten, Guatemala. As capital of the Kowoj Maya, it was the largest Postclassic site in the region, spread across three islands: Topoxte (ceremonial), Paxte (elite residential), and Cante (over 100 residential structures). Temple Pyramid C is the only restored Postclassic building in Peten, featuring three levels with a pillared portal. The site was abandoned around 1450 AD.
