The Cave of Altamira is a cave complex near Santillana del Mar in Cantabria, Spain, renowned for its prehistoric cave art [1]. The cave features charcoal drawings and polychrome paintings depicting contemporary local fauna and human hands [1]. The earliest paintings date to the Upper Paleolithic period, approximately 36,000 years ago [1]. The site was discovered in 1868 by Modesto Cubillas and later studied by Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola [1].
