Metropolis, Thessaly

Metropolis was an ancient Greek polis (city-state) in Upper Thessaly, founded through the synoecism of three minor settlements, later incorporating additional towns including Ithome according to Strabo. The city formed part of a strategic quadrangle with Tricca, Pelinnaeum, and Gomphi, and its location is confirmed by Julius Caesar's march from Gomphi to Pharsalus in 48 BC during the Civil War.
