Bonampak is a small ancient Maya city in Chiapas State, Mexico, dating to the Late Classic period (c. 580–800 AD) [1][2]. Located approximately 30 km south of Yaxchilan, it functioned as a subordinate settlement to this larger city [1]. While modest in architectural scale, Bonampak is renowned for the murals within Structure 1, known as the Temple of the Murals, which rank among the finest and best-preserved Maya wall paintings [1][2][3]. These vivid murals depict scenes of court life, ceremonies, and battle, offering a rare window into Maya artistry during the Classic period [2][3].
