Museo Regional de Antropologia Carlos Pellier

Opened on February 16, 1980, in Villahermosa, Tabasco, this museum is named after the Tabascan poet Carlos Pellicer Camara. It houses approximately 10,000 archaeological pieces, making it the second most important anthropological collection in Mexico after the National Museum of Anthropology. The collection includes monumental Olmec stone sculptures from La Venta, Maya ceremonial vessels, and artifacts from the Zoque and Nahua cultures that inhabited Tabasco. Severely damaged during the 2007 Tabasco floods, the museum closed for four years and reopened fully renovated in December 2011.
