A Maya archaeological site located on islands within the Lagos de Colon lake system in the Municipality of La Trinitaria, southeastern Chiapas, Mexico, near the Guatemalan border. The ceremonial center extends over the 8-hectare El Limonar islet, the largest of 11 islands in the lake zone. Occupied from the Early Classic through Early Postclassic periods (c. 300-1200 AD), it reached its peak during the Late Classic (600-900 AD) as an important intermediary between Maya Lowland and Highland cultures. INAH excavations uncovered a stele with a bas-relief depicting the conquest of one Maya group by another, as well as Postclassic metalwork artifacts from a pyramid burial.
