Myriv

An ancient Iron Age Scythian fortified settlement in Ukraine, founded around 800-750 BC, and one of the largest Scythian sites between the Dniester and Dnieper rivers, covering over 100 hectares. The inhabitants belonged to the Chernoles culture, and archaeological excavations revealed substantial quantities of imported Greek pottery, indicating active commercial ties with Borysthenes, the first Greek colony on the northern Black Sea coast founded around 625 BC. The fortified settlement dates to the 7th-6th century BC. In 900-1250 AD the site was reoccupied as a Ruthenian settlement of Kyivan Rus before being destroyed during the Mongol invasion; it was later rebuilt as Nemyriv, first documented in 1506.
