Neuchâtel is a town and municipality on Lake Neuchâtel, and the capital of the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel[1]. The German name Neuenburg reflects the same etymology; both the French and German names mean 'New Castle'[1]. Following the 2021 municipal merger with Corcelles-Cormondrèche, Peseux, and Valangin, the city has approximately 45,000 inhabitants[1].
